Some of the most common ways that career counselling can be provided is through
● Test based / Objective Counselling
o An IQ or aptitude test
o A Personality assessment
o A Skills Test
● Qualitative or Discussion based
o Discussion of the individual’s educational background.
o Discussion of opportunities for growth and progression in a certain field.
o Discussion of what the individual considers as fulfilling.
o Discussion of what takes precedence in an individual’s life: money or contentment.
To make it effective, a counselling session should be a combination of test and discussion based counselling. Without the objective assessment or the discussion with the individual, a counselling session may not be very effective.
